GEORGIE’S REVIEW: VALENTINO SS21

Sun 27 Sep

By showing co-ed and in Milan, this Valentino SS21 collection had hinted that it was going to be a little out of the ordinary. But this was in keeping with what Pierpaolo Piccioli has shown for the past seasons - intarsia, broderie anglaise, androgynous pieces (those skort playsuits!) as well as decadent flowing gowns - this time a little more spritely, a little peppier.

There was also a live performance from Labrinth, who hit the passionate music mark that Piccioli sets with each show. Labrinth was a wise choice, not only because he has a beautiful voice but because his music for the Emmy-award winning show Euphoria is a TikTok hit. Piccioli seems to be pushing for the younger market with this collection.

Another clear indicator was the return of the famous Rock Stud. The ever-popular design was back in full-force, this season updated on pointed toe Grecian Sandal and clutched bags. Bigger and bolder than ever. A clever addition in uncertain times - these will always be a hot sell. This was a beautiful collection and beautifully presented too, but without the return of the Rock Stud, it might not have packed the punch that it did.
