GEORGIE’S REVIEW: HALPERN SS21
Sat 19 Sep
For SS21, Michael Halpern did away with the opulent, gilded fashion show and paid homage to the brilliant hard-working women on the front-line of this pandemic. Halpern’s ‘Heroines of the Front Line’ included the likes of a train controller, an OBGYN and a health care assistant, who each reflected on their work during the lockdown period.
One sometimes watches a Halpern show wondering how Halpern’s abundance of sequins will transform, but this season seeing such brilliant women in high-glamour, drama and glitz, added new energy to Halpern's designs. It was heartfelt and arresting and seeing inspirational individuals in such divinely glamorous suiting, dresses and frills were wonderful.
Spotted silk pyjama-esque suiting, dramatic caped gowns, frou dresses, leopard print and rushed fan-front cocktail attire all came alive with the smiles, laughter and dancing from these women. It was a wonderfully refreshing and respectful presentation that pushed Halpern into new realms.
