GEORGIE’S REVIEW: AVAVAV PRE-SS21

Florence-based brand AVAVAV produce looks that are a clever osmosis of clean, crisp Swedish minimalism with fine Italian craftsmanship. They operate a little outside of the norm, creating concise monthly capsule collections produced from only what’s relevant. Their latest drop? A continuation of their ubiquitous ruffle dresses, but here seen in deep, rich sheeny olive green and black. Long, flowing and floor-length, the ruffle dresses are kitted with popped Victorian style collars that add an air of drama.
Volume and silhouette are an AVAVAV staple and the latest collection seems to spotlight both with a focus on the neck. Shirting, of which AVAVAV is best known, is here seen as a coordinated set amongst tailored trouser, cardigan and scarf-tie neckline. Playful, feminine with an undertone of mischief, this latest capsule leaves a theatrical impression.
