Coperni’s Coming Of Age – DAZED

Fri 28 Oct

Coperni loves a gag: from crafting handbags from glass to spraying a liquid latex dress onto Bella Hadid in real time, designers Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant have proven that fashion is important because of – not despite – it being fun and frivolous. Heralding its AW22 collection, the duo have just released a new campaign shot by Oliver Hadlee Pearch, shrinking its clothing down to newborn size on a cast of little babies. Just as the cult of youth was beginning to lose its shine – think The Row, Bottega Veneta, etc – the Parisian duo have skewed even more juvenile. Titled Coming of Age, the campaign is “an ode to youth and its evolution,” as Meyer and Vaillant say. “It echoes the fashion show, which paid tribute to teenagehood, but the concept is pushed to paroxysm here, looking at the first stage of evolution and of our coming of age: a childhood memory. The video reminds us of 90s TV commercials.”
